XYZ Selectors 101 – Ian O’Donovan Tracklist
XYZ and When We Dip present the Selectors series, where we give our family of producers an opportunity to display their prowess behind the decks. Expect unreleased material from across the label collective, as well as classic gems and heady grooves from some of the underground’s finest selectors.
We’re thrilled to welcome Ian O’Donovan for episode 101 of XYZ Selectors. The prolific Irish producer and label veteran (check out the stunning Still Waters LP) gifts us with a magical mix, featuring his latest XYZ composition; a remix of Koelle & Reza Safinia’s Reverie, released on September 29th.
Staying true to his style, which made him a pillar of the label in the early years, Ian O’Donovan opens the track with a riding hat groove that lays on the bass progression. The iconic horn from the original mix is then unleashed, leading into a break where the harmony develops in full effect. O’Donovan finishes by adding an acid layer to the bass, an exclamation point to the already driving track.
