Salty DJ is one to watch. He’s a Berlin-based vinyl head and resident of the Shockwerk collective whose parties have been causing a stir in the southern half of Germany. This new kid on the block is wasting no time getting out there, with notable performances at Weltspiele, Tresor, Mala Junta, and Kulør’s label night at Berghain. His sound is indicative of a particularly defined social current rippling through music at the moment, a re-remembering and reconfiguration of the experience of youth in the 90s and parallels found on dancefloors today: soundtracked by plenty of the decade’s finest techno and trance-leaning frequencies, and plenty of shades there-between. His slamming beats barely leave enough space for you to catch a breath. Skittish and quick as a flash, there’s little doubt Salty DJ’s wax wizardry holds great promise. Bassiani Podcast 198 is powerful stuff, an hour-long dispatch from this fresh and compelling prodigy.
